The Iowa Department of Transportation requested the assistance of RC&D’s in Iowa to serve as leaders of the state’s scenic byways and provides funds to RC&Ds through the Iowa Byway Sustainability Project. Limestone Bluffs RC&D is serving as the lead entity to build the capacity of the Delaware Crossing Scenic Byway in Delaware County. Stakeholders and byway councils have been established, new signage has been created, a website developed, brochures printed for tourists and work continues on the development of a corridor management plan.
Implementation of AmeriCorps NCCC Project with Delaware County Historical Society and the City of Hopkinton; AmeriCorps volunteers worked April 29-May18, 2010 on campus cleanup at the Delaware County Historical Museum – the old Lenox Campus in Hopkinton. The project is a partnership between Delaware County Historical Society, City of Hopkinton, and Delaware Crossing Scenic Byway board. The group, while hardworking and efficient, were not able to accomplish all items on the task list and so DCHS re-applied to have another group return to complete more tasks. The main purpose, campus cleanup, was accomplished. Tasks completed include refinishing the hardwood floor in the church, re-setting and moving several displays, cleaning and repainting the basement of Doolittle Hall; preliminary GIS mapping of the scenic byway and donated photography for the byway photo database. AmeriCorps volunteers commended this project on its uniqueness and to the hospitality and efficiency of the board members of the historical society.
